Our Members Making News.

Pictured in the local newspaper Wednesday August 10th 2005 "the Benalla Ensign" president Paul Larkin presenting Life Membership to Noel O'Connor in recognition of his long involvement in and passion for the group.

Pictured in the local newspaper "The Benalla Ensign" was our own Brad Tonkin, after securing a massive 29.4 Kg Murray Cod lure casting into the Broken River. After releasing it back into the river, Brad said with latest research indicating a cod of such size was able to produce between 50,000 and 300,000 eggs each breeding season, it was important larger cod were released back into waterways. Well done Brad.

Great result for TAG at the Undera Angling Club "Goulburn Cod Classic" 2007 where we won the Perpetual Club Trophy again.

What is the Tatong Angling Group?

The Tatong Angling Group (TAG) was formed in 1993 after major floods had struck the Region. The group was set up when a number of local anglers came together, in response to their shared concerns with regard to the health and condition of these important local streams, and how they saw them being managed. With their interest in the future of the local catchment TAG saw the opportunity to become actively involved in the participation in stream management.

What has been done so far?

Following the formation of TAG, this comprises about 60 interested anglers from the wider Goulburn Broken catchment. TAG started building up partnerships with the Local Authorities and Government to address the plight of the streams. Initially two sites were selected one on each of the streams for the group to adopt To date TAG has erected over 1.5 km of fence and planted over 2000 local indigenous trees and shrubs at the 2 sites. Willows have also been removed and blackberries and other woody weeds sprayed. Since then the group has in partnership with the Goulburn Broken CMA extended its activities on both streams.
